The Alacrity 1st Alacrity - This the first ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was a Cruiser class, 18-gun, brig-sloop. Built by Rowe of Newcastle, launched 13-Nov-1806. Captured by the French ship Abeille, 26-May-1811, off Corsica. 2nd Alacrity - the second ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was a Cherokee class, 10-gun, brig-sloop. Built at Deptford Dockyard, launched 29-Dec-1818. Sold 28-Aug-1835. 3rd Alacrity - the third ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was a wooden screw sloop. Built by Mare of Blackwall, launched 20-Mar-1856, 180ft 6in long, 28ft 6in wide, and of 675 tons builders measurement. Took part in the Royal Fleet Review 1856. Sold 07-Oct-1864. 4th Alacrity - the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was a schooner, bought 04-Nov-1872 (ex Ethel). Armed with a single 12pdr gun, and of 85 tons builders measurement. Sold at Sydney 1882. 5th Alacrity - This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was a despatch vessel. Built by Palmer, launched 28-Feb-1885, 20ft long, 32ft 6in wide and displacing 1,700 tons. Armed with 5 x 5in and 4 x 6pdr guns. Sold Sep-1913 in Hong Kong. Won the Battle Honour: China 1900. 6th Alacrity - the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was an 8-gun, despatch vessel. Originally HMS Surprise, renamed Alacrity 1913. Built by Palmer, launched 17-Jan-1885, 250ft long, 32ft 6in wide and displacing1,650 tons. Armed with 4 x 5in and 4 x 6pdr guns. Sold 1919. 7th Alacrity - the seventh ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was an armed boarding steamer. Requisitioned and converted to an Armed boarding vessel. Converted 08-Aug-1919 as yacht for the C-in-C Far East. Paid off Jul-1922. Finally removed from the Lloyds Register 10-Jul-1939. 8th Alacrity - This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was a Modified Black Swan Class (1942) sloop. Built by Denny, laid down 05-Apr-1943, launched 01-Sep-1944, and completed 13-Apr-1945. On commissioning went to join the Pacific Fleet, but the war ended by the time she reached Colombo. Arrived at Hong Kong 19-Sep-1945, and continued in service off the Chinese coast until Feb-1946 when she went for refit at New Zealand which took until Apr-1946. Continued with the Pacific Fleet (which was renamed the Far East Fleet 1949) until mid-1951 Then returned to the UK and was put into reserve. Went to the far east during the Korean War. Arrived at Arnott Young of Dalmuir for breaking up, 15-Sep-1956. Won the Battle Honour: Korea 1950-52. 9th Alacrity - the ninth ship to carry the name HMS Alacrity was a Type 21, Amazon Class, guided missile frigate. Built by Yarrow, launched 18-Sep-1974 and completed 1977. Appeared at the Silver Jubilee Review 1977. Sold 1994 to Pakistan as PNS Badr. Won the Battle Honour: Falkland Islands 1982.
