The All Peoples Congress (APC) candidate for the Anambra State - TopicsExpress

The All Peoples Congress (APC) candidate for the Anambra State November 16, 2013 gubernatorial election, Chris Ngige, on Thursday, told United States of America (USA) diplomats that the desperation of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to win the election at all costs could derail the election. ‘’APGA’s desperation to win the November 16, governorship election has manifested in their destruction of APC billboards, posters and numerous attacks on members of my campaign team’’, Ngige told Mssrs Rolfe Olson and Craig Lanless, Political/Economic Section Chief, US Consulate, Lagos and Political Counsellor, US Embassy, Abuja respectively, who were interacting with him at Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area. In a press statement signed by the Director, Ngige 2014 Campaign Organisation, Charles Amilo, the APC candidate explained that the odds were against Obiano and APGA winning the election as Obiano is the ‘greenest horn of all the candidates and Anambra State does not appear to be ready for governor who is coming to learn the ropes. In response to questions whether the APC is grounded in Anambra State or not, Ngige told the diplomats that the party is grounded in the state, and that the propaganda about its status is baseless. ‘’All Anambra people are interested in is a capable, reliable governor and not a political party. Anambra State has suffered greatly developmentally and the state cannot afford a learning governor,’’ he said Ngige, through the release, pointed out that his programmes have a special place for children and women through the provision of free education ad free medical care for pregnant and nursing mothers The former governor also urged the American diplomats to get their government to increase the number of election observers it has for the election as the state’s 21 LGAs and 356 wards would not be adequately covered by the proposed 20 observers. ‘’The November 16 governorship election is a major test for Nigeria to attain genuine democracy and if Nigeria must move forward, the outcome of the election must reflect the wishes of the people,’’ Ngige affirmed. Earlier, the diplomats had told the APC candidate that they came because they are interested in a free, fair and credible election in Anambra State. ‘’The USA is interested in the process leading to the election; the election proper and the final result, because we want to make sure that it conforms to international democratic standards.’’ The diplomats further promised to consult with other western countries, including Canada and the United Kingdom, to collaborate on using adequate number of observers during the election.
