The Amazing Rudkhan Castle is a brick and stone medieval castle located in Gilan province, Iran; The castle is a military complex and evidence suggests the structure was built during the Great Sassanian era and repaired & renovated during the Seljuk era, it has been continually used up until the Zandieh Dynasty. Rudkhan Castle is built on the two peaks of a mountain with an area of 2.6 hectares (6.4 acres), at elevations of 715 and 670 meters and contains strong fortifications and battlements with walls measuring in total 1550 meters around the entire structure; All 42 towers of the castle are still intact. Hiking up the castle which is situated along two mountain peaks takes more than an hour prompting many locals to call Rudkhan the Castle of a Thousand Steps. (parham)
