The American Forum of Russian-speaking Jewry collected more than half a million sheckels towards renovating bomb shelters in southern Israel during Operation Protective Edge. Thousands of Russian-speaking Americans and Canadians answered the call to help Israel during the latest military operation in Gaza. Russian TV channel RTVi and radio channels DaNu, Davidzon (New York), and VERA (Vancouver) all participated in the fundraising effort. Bomb shelters in the most critical points in southern Israel, including Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon were renovated. The World Forum led a number of pro-Israel rallies in the U.S., Canada, Germany and Australia. It directly assisted Russian-speaking lone soldiers serving in IDF combat units, as well as low-income immigrants in southern Israel, including veterans of WWII and Chernobyl refugees.
