The American Legion’s charter clearly states “The American - TopicsExpress

The American Legion’s charter clearly states “The American Legion shall be absolutely nonpolitical and shall not be used for the dissemination of partisan principles nor for the promotion of the candidacy of any person seeking public office or preferment.” This means that The American Legion does not endorse candidates, and that you check your Legion cap at the door of any political rallies, fundraisers or conventions. Individuals on this page who post their opinions on elected officials are not violating the charter. However, the use of terms like Tea Party, liberals, etc. have created a giant wedge down the center of this page and have created a combative atmosphere not fitting of The American Legion. Therefore, a change is being made as of today. If you disagree with a policy decision made by an elected official, you are free to criticize that individual. When Congress or the president make a decision we don’t feel is in the best interest of our veterans and servicemember, The American Legion speaks out against it, usually through our national commander. We’ve done so since our inception. But as we do, you now are to leave policital parties out of it argument. Any references criticizing the Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives, Tea Party members, etc. will result in a deletion of the comment – whether it’s a comment or a reply to a comment. A second violation will result in a ban. If you want to criticize a political party, feel free to do so on your own FB page. As of today, that stops here. The rules are clearly in place.
