The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a group of multi-millionaires and billionaires who meet regularly and write legislation that they then send to the Congressmen,Senators,Governors, and state legislators who they have bought and paid for.The Koch Brothers are their wealthiest members. The members use their money and influence to get their radical right-wing legislation pushed through any state legislature that is controlled by the GOP.That is why you see so many states trying to enact these extreme, radical laws that deal with voting rights, women`s reproductive rights, the privatization of education, the destruction of labor unions, attacks on the poor and worker`s rights, attacks on the people`s rights to affordable health care, attempts to privatize Social Security and end Medicare as we know it.They are the "shadow" government of the GOP. Although they won`t admit it publicly, they do not believe in Democracy. They believe the country should be governed by those who have most of the money, either through a plutocracy or an ogliarchy. All of the radical GOP legislation originated with ALEC. So did Fox News. So did the tea party movement. For a while,it did not concern me much, because I believed the American people and the press were much too smart to fall for such nonsense. But now it is getting scary. They already control many states and the U.S. House of Representatives. And people don`t realize that ALEC is their unelected government. In my opinion, ALEC is the greatest scandal in history. It has so corrupted the GOP that our democracy is threatened. And it barely gets mentioned in the press.
