The American subjects are presented this November with, for their consideration and choice, or so we’re told, a two-headed coin similar in its brazen hypocrisy and treachery to that handed to the Man God Jesus Christ to try to trick him. The high priests and Pharisees asked Jesus–shall we pay the tribute to the Emperor Augustus–himself living far removed from this simian treachery, conducted by his subjects, far from him as well. The intended trick was to hand Jesus a two-sided coin, with the same face adorning, to force God Jesus to choose between His loyalty to Rome or instead to His Jewish fellow subjects. Had He picked first to sanction tribute, he would have been killed as an insurrectionist against His own Jewish homeland. Had He chosen to reject such tribute, He would have been killed by the Romans as a insurrectionist against the Empire. Jesus deftly ducked the issue by asking for the coin of tribute and, on examining it, uttered one now famous comment: Whose face adorns the coin of tribute? On hearing “The Caesar Augustus” adorned it, Jesus replied: give the coin to The Caesar Augustus whose likeness adorns the coin and give other things to God that are God’s property.
