The Arizona Silver Belt is one of several newspapers I worked for - TopicsExpress

The Arizona Silver Belt is one of several newspapers I worked for in my day, a UNION shop. I am a former Lithographers Union member. See the picture with the page dated 1900. The paper was already more than 100 years old when I worked there, I even used their old linotype machine a couple of times for engraving jobs (the way wedding invitations used to be done etc. and they were still doing print jobs of that nature in the late 70s when I worked there). I was also using a computer typesetting console, I was once of the best typesetters ever! (brag brag). I was promoted to a reporter at one point and as part of my duties I produced a weekly column from microfiche records of all their previous editions, and that included selecting stories from 75 years ago, 50 years ago, etc. Well I about fell off my office chair when I found a story one day from the 1929 edition that mentioned MY HOUSEs address in an obituary. Seems that there was an epidemic of meningitis during that time, and although the cause of death was not mentioned, it was a tiny one inch obituary at the bottom of a page Double Funeral. Seems two brothers who lived in my house in 1929 both died, and both their wives were left widowed. My editor was also a preacher, Jimmie Woods, he was a sweet and kind man. Mr. Powers was my boss when I worked in production. One of my coworkers had a side business as a chimney sweep when that was getting to be a thing. I often wonder what became of all those people. Also, that was the home town of Iran Hostage Crisis hero Jimmy Lopez, and they gave him a parade when he finally returned home. Ive had a long and interesting life, my friends. Oh and it is the home town also of my former boss in the AZ Governors Office, Ed Pastor (Laura Laura Pastor is his daughter), Ed just retired from CONGRESS after at least 20 years there. He was best man at my first wedding. Just a little bit about the interesting life of Granny E.T.
