The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Braves first round pick Lucas Sims, drafted out of Brookwood High School in 2012, was named the Braves’ organizational pitcher of the year and will be honored with other minor league pitchers and players of the year at Turner Field before Saturday’s game against the Phillies. The award winners will be available to sign autographs from 5:20-6:20 p.m. in the fan plaza. Sims went 12-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 28 games (18 starts) for low Single-A Rome, while holding opponents to a .203 batting average. A fellow member of the 2012 draft class – sixth round pick Josh Elander - was named the Braves organizational player of the year. The outfielder who was drafted out of TCU hit .293 with 34 doubles, 15 home runs and 93 RBIs in 135 games combined in low-A Rome and high-A Lynchburg. Other winners at each level were: Triple-A Gwinnett (David Hale, pitcher; Joey Terdoslavich, player), Double-A Mississippi (Gus Schlosser, pitcher; Tommy La Stella player), Single-A Lynchburg (Williams Perez, pitcher; Robby Hefflinger, player); Single-A Rome (Shae Simmons, pitcher; Jose Peraza player); rookie Danville (Andrew Waszak, pitcher; Victor Caratini player); rookie Gulf Coast (Orioel Caicedo, pitcher; Victor Reyes player); DSL (Felix Falcon, pitcher; Kelvin Estevez, player).
