The Australian Government is currently negotiating an international trade agreement called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPPA). Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) provisions in this agreement would enable foreign investors to sue governments for millions of dollars if government regulation is seen to “harm” their investment. This would mean coal & gas companies could sue our governments for regulations designed to protect OUR environment from THEIR operations.
