The Australians have been back in action this morning chasing places in the finals and semi-finals at a meet that is becoming faster by the day. Already seven world records have been broken and there is a promise of more to come. There were some anxious moments today as qualifying for the top eight in the 200 and 400m events hotted up - none more so than in the mens and womens 400m freestyle with Australians Jordan Harrison and Daniel Smith and Leah Smith all progressing. “Wow that was tight,” said a relieved Harrison, who made his Doha debut with a time of 3:39.67, just edging out his Miami Podium Centre training partner Smith (3:40.12). “It’s going to be on tonight that’s for sure but at least we’re in there with a shot.” Indooroopillys Neale, a rookie like Smith, pulled out all stops to record a pb of 4:02.03 to qualify seventh with training partner Kylie Palmer just missing, finishing in 4:02.86. In other heats today: Australian pair Sally Hunter (1:05.24) 10th and Leiston Pickett (1:05.62) 13th both qualified through to semi-finals of the 100m breaststroke. Rookie David Morgan earned himself another swim tonight with his 23.03pb (13th) in 50fly heats which saw last night’s 100m butterfly bronze medallist Tommaso D’Orsogna miss the semis clocking 23.24 for 21st. QLD girls Madi Wilson (2:03.39) 3rd and 100m backstroke silver medallist Emily Seebohm (2:03.49) 6th went safely through to 200m backstroke final tonight while new world champion Mitch Larkin qualified 10th in the helter skelter 50m back heats in 23.69 saying it will be different tonight.”
