The Avro C102 Jetliner was a Canadian prototype medium-range jet - TopicsExpress

The Avro C102 Jetliner was a Canadian prototype medium-range jet airliner built by Avro Canada in 1949. It was beaten into the air by only 13 days by the de Havilland Comet, thereby becoming the second jet airliner in the world. In Canada and the United States the term Jetliner has often been used to refer to any jet airliner since then. The aircraft was considered suitable for busy routes along the US eastern seaboard and garnered intense interest, notably from Howard Hughes who even offered to start production under license. TWA had spoken to Avro, about purchasing a number of these aircraft for use in North America on their regional routes , and the USAF were also allocating funds for a purchase of 20 aircraft for bomber, and navigational training. Despite the pending orders the Canadian Government did not have the foresight to move forward with this project and they were more concerned with delays in Avros all-weather interceptor project, the Avro CF-100, which led to an order to stop working on the project in 1951, the aircraft was around until 1957 when it was scrapped. It is another one of those projects that held so much promise, but the powers to be could not see the potential.
