The BHS Tunnel would have been 75 years old if it Had Lived. - TopicsExpress

The BHS Tunnel would have been 75 years old if it Had Lived. Here are two photos of the BHS tunnel from a devoted fan. One when the tunnel was fully functional and one during demolition. Here are some facts about the tunnel: 1. It was built in 1939 to connect the new Industrial Arts Building to the high school to bypass Hopocan which was a very busy road then. 2. It was NOT built as a bomb shelter. Stop and think about 1939. Where would the bombers have come, Canada? You must judge historical events in the context of their own times. Not as we see them now. 3. Those two rooms with steel doors down near the center of the tunnel were closets. Initially they were put in for steam pipes, but that system of heating the Industrial Arts Building was found to be implausible. 4 The rumor is these rooms were filled with Civil Defense material and that the US Army came in the dead of night before the high school was torn down to whisk it away is silly. Why would the US Army want some old crackers in tins? 5. The tunnel is still there but filled with rubble on each end and covered over. One day it will likely create a sink hole problem. 6. It made an incredible sound when you shot off firecrackers in it. NOW, set aside your animosity and the supposed dark secrets someone told you about the tunnel and tell us about your good memories of the tunnel when you went to BHS. I for one remember the day that it opened in 1939. - Frank Sr.
