The BRT network project named KIN Rapid project for Kinshasa (DR Congo) was introduced for the first time at World Expo Shanghai (African Pavilion) in 2010 by CitiLinks, AEC and Tongji University. The project aimed to create a Bus Rapid Transit network for an informal metropolis of currently 10 million people (17 million people expected in 2025.) In 2010, the students of Tongji University (Industrial design) joined a Congolese team to make a workshop about the bus stations design and develop a future landmark for Kinshasa. In 2011, the Kin Rapid project has been integrated in the Transportation Plan of Kinshasa (Transurb/AEC/Citilinks.) Today, the achievement of the 1st trunk of BRT line 6 linking the boulevard du 30 Juin and the Airport of Kinshasa Ndjili is under discussion. Citilinks is currently working on the development of self-sufficient urban communities connected to the BRT stations and driven by the development of micro-urban farms able to create a model of food sustainability for this African megapolis. More info soon on our FB page Citilinks.
