The Backyard Roundup Thursday, January 23 The sky was cloudless today here in Pugwash. The west wind wasnt blowing very hard. It seemed like a nice day to take a leisurely drive along the coast. With camera in hand, my partner and I headed out the Gulf Shore Road, with no particular destination in mind. Our journey took us onto side roads just because they got us closer to the scenic coastline. The Fox Harbour Road provided a wonderful view of the entrance to the Wallace harbour. In the sky, medium altitude cloud which had developed over the Northumberland Strait had crept in. Following several stops to take photos, we found ourselves in Tatamagouche. Although only a short distance from Wallace, the sky was once again void of cloud. The Northumberland shore wasnt the only area to see skies go from no cloud to all cloud and back to sunshine throughout the day. CFB Greenwood observed changes from mainly cloud through partly cloud to mainly sunny then repeat. Charlottetown experienced a similar pattern. In Saint John, the day started out with partly cloudy conditions, alternating to mainly cloud until mid afternoon when the sky cleared, returning to mainly cloud by evening. Some locations also reported snow along with the unsettled sky. Light snow fell in Port Hawkesbury for much of the day. Sydney reported snowshowers and drifting snow. Halifax Airport had flurries in the first part of the morning. In contrast to other areas, Fredericton went from very early morning cloud to a sunny sky and stayed sunny until early evening when cloud developed. Of course the weather chatter today focused on this weekends forecast winter storm. There are lots of active warnings, watches and statements in the Maritimes. Be sure to follow the warning posts from Environment Canada shared on IOBY. For more details on whats in the forecast for the weekend, check Kalin Mitchells afternoon report shared here earlier. Our updates to tomorrows forecasts will be posted in the morning. See you then! #BackyardWeather (Stephen)
