The Baptism of Repentance Luke 3:3 “And he came into all - TopicsExpress

The Baptism of Repentance Luke 3:3 “And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.” There are two Greek words for baptism: baptisma and baptiso. Baptisma signified a position and baptizo an action. Salvation for the remission of sins is associated with the baptism of repentance. The baptism of repentance is the position one is in when he turns from sin and receives Jesus Christ in his heart by faith. He becomes a repentant believer. At this moment the Holy Spirit does a work of regeneration in his life and reconciles him the God. Then as a picture and evidence of his faith he is baptized by immersion in water picturing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; which he accepted for the remission of sins. To make it simple, John preached that you must turn from sin and trust Jesus Christ to save you. He taught that salvation is only appropriated by the grace of God which comes by faith in the Son of God. Then he baptized people in water as a picture of their faith in the Lord. Subsequently, those who were saved and baptized should follow Jesus in lifestyle and actions. Pastor Wilson 5-29-2014
