The Battle of Mogadishu, more commonly referred to as Black Hawk Down or, locally, as the Day of the Rangers (Somali: Maalintii Rangers), was part of Operation Gothic Serpent and was fought on 3 and 4 October 1993, in Mogadishu, Somalia, between forces of the United States supported by UNOSOM II, and Somali militiamen loyal to the self-proclaimed president-to-be Mohamed Farrah Aidid who had support from armed civilian fighters. Today marks the 20th anniversary of the Battle of Mogadishu, where our Army’s Rangers and Special Operations Forces displayed extraordinary heroism. The story of the battle, made famous by the movie “Black Hawk Down” is something everyone should see. The battle killed 18 Americans and wounded at least 80 others. La batalla de Mogadiscio, más comúnmente conocida como Black Hawk derribado o, localmente, como el día de los Rangers (somalí: Maalintii Rangers), formó parte de la operación serpiente gótica y se libró el 3 y el 04 de octubre de 1993, en Mogadiscio, Somalia, entre las fuerzas de Estados Unidos, apoyado por la ONUSOM II y milicianos somalíes leales al autoproclamado Presidente que Mohamed Farrah Aidid que tenía apoyo de combatientes civiles armados.
