The Belize Music Agency in association with Signature Promotions will present on Saturday, December 20th, 2014 an old-fashioned Belize Christmas show, dinner and bram at Travellers Signature Lounge on the Philip Goldson Highway. The evening’s entertainment starts at 8:00 p.m. with a tribute to “Mista Peetaz”, Wilfred Peters, the late King of Brukdong. The half hour tribute in his honour will offer renditions of his most popular songs that showcase his unique style and this exclusive Belizean music form. The show follows and will offer live performance renditions of traditional Christmas carols followed by favourite Christmas songs of yesteryear. That segment will segue into popular “Soul Christmas” songs before a 45 minute intermission. The second half of the show will feature well-known reggae Christmas songs and climaxes in Belize’s unique Christmas bram music which highlights the brukdong music derived from the days of the mahogany camp. A traditional Belize Christmas dinner, baked turkey (baked chicken or baked pork leg slices), fire-hearth rice and beans, stuffings, cranberry, and potato salad (macaroni salad or green salad) will be served to VIP ticket purchasers but will be available for sale to those who enter as general admission. Black and white fruit cake, black and white plain cake, and homemade Black Berry wine round out the menu. The dinner and show will climax in a dance - an old fashioned Belizean Christmas bram. The event will evoke memories of Belize’s tradition which originated from the days when the woodcutters would break from their labours in the rainforest and come to Belize Town. In those days of “Geng Bruk” (Gang Broke) the women in anticipation of their arrival after months in the bush, would clean and paint up their homes, hanging new curtains and putting down “linoleum”, varnishing and refurbishing the furniture. The community would celebrate the holidays with much house to house visiting, eating, drinking, dancing and music.
