The Big Grand Final A big weekend at Shark Park (Bennett Park) - TopicsExpress

The Big Grand Final A big weekend at Shark Park (Bennett Park) this Saturday when our 2’s led by Waddo take on Floreat-Hellenic in the Grand Final. The games between these two have been closely ( and energetically) fought all season so this should be a great game. So get along and support the boys this weekend. We will be at the clubhouse both nights. Can anyone smell blood in the water? Captain courageous Michael (Waddo) Waddington has written the following: Here is the side for the weekend: M. Waddington M. Murnane S. Waddington B. Marlowe D. Spencer A. Ballucci J. Holmes J. Olman R. Smith T. Brown D. Barr G. Stevens 12th First of all congratulations to Steve Lockwood and his players on last weekend’s premiership. Premierships are not easy to come by. You boys have been a consistent team all year and now you have a bond of a lifetime. Congratulations. I would like to thank the Scarborough Cricket Club for giving myself and the 11 cricketers that I will be going into battle with this weekend, the opportunity to bring another piece of history to this already highly respected and credentialed cricket club. It hasn’t been an easy season for us by all means but it has been a season of invaluable experience for a young and talented side that we have. To see guys like Mat Murnane, Jarrod Holmes, Steven Waddington, Blane Marlowe and Gabe Stevens really take their cricket to another level this season has been astonishing to watch. To have the wise heads of Roger Smith, Troy Brown and David Barr at difficult times throughout the year has been a huge asset for this side to get it where it is today. Their leadership and experience can’t be matched. Unfortunately with success comes depth, this year has seen 32 players come through the seconds side that had lost 3 games. Most notably of the players that will be missing the grand final for us will be; Gabe Stevens, He has been the back bone of our side for a majority of the season just getting squeezed out towards the end. I can say in all honesty making the decision has been the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my sporting career. But knowing Gabe’s personality and will to get better and better he will become a star of the competition in years to come. Matt McDermott, Matt’s ability to win a game for us at certain times throughout the year has been sensational, for example, in our first final the opposition was starting to get away from us and Matt came on and turned the game back into our favour by taking wickets and haveing an all-round intimidating presence, something our young learning side will look back on for a long time and take lessons out of. Deon Benade, Deon has been a captains dream to play with, he will do anything to help the team win and puts his whole heart into a game week in week out. Unfortunately things haven’t quite gone his way this season but knowing the calibre of someone like Deon things will turn around very quickly for him. I know all of our players are ready to go this weekend, we have never been so prepared for a game, with a great mix of experience and youth in our side I know we are ready for this. But it will not be easy, Floreat are an exceptional side and them finishing on top is proof of that. I know that if we continue to do what we have all year, play good, hard, disciplined cricket that our goal of a premiership is more than achievable. Hopefully we will have the whole Scarborough Cricket Club (players and supporters) down this weekend to see two exceptional cricket teams go head to head. Good luck boys.. Waddo. Throw this one in your diaries. We would love to see the out of town Sharks make the trip for the weekend. Bali The 20/20 Tournament is on in Bali 24th May to 1st June. It is a great trip. Keef Manea and Junior are doing the organising. Let them know if you are a chance of going. Plans need to be finalised soon Cheers Ross P.S. BTW: Just in case you missed it, NSW Blues smacked WA’s backside in the Sheffield Shield final as well. Even without Clark and Haddin. Too easy .
