The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at approximately 4:50 p.m., at 1117 Cotton Avenue Southwest. The victim’s identity will be released upon notification of immediate family. Officers from the West Precinct responded to the incident location to investigate a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying in the backyard of the location, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded and transported the victim to U.A.B. Hospital for treatment. Hospital staff later pronounced the victim deceased as a result of his injuries. There have been no arrests or charges filed in this case. If there is anyone who has information pertaining to the case, they are encouraged to contact the B.P.D. Homicide Unit at 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
