The Bloody Mary: Originally called the Bucket of Blood (after the Paris club, at whose meetings it was served), this brunch and summer staple started its US history using gin, instead of vodka (not available here, at the time) and called a Red Snapper (a signature drink at the St. Regis Hotel. My personal preference is to use gin (for its botanicals and flavor), but feel free to use any recipe you like. But PLEASE DONT use a pre-mixed, Bloody Mary mix. These bottled abominations are nothing more than overspiced, tomato-flavored salt. And PLEASE DONT use an expensive vodka or gin. Making a Bloody with Grey Goose or Tanqueray is like throwing good money down the drain. Stick with mid-range spirits. And PLEASE DONT overgarnish. The Bloody is still a cocktail, not a meal. Ive gotten this libation packed with celery, tiny shrimp and minced clams. cocktail-corner.blogspot/
