The Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) authorities Saturday put thousands of aspirants appearing in the Common Entrance Test-2013 to a huge distress in the wake of their gross negligence of ‘leaking’ Biology papers at few examination centers here. The Bio paper was scheduled to be held on Sunday. Later in the evening, the BOPEE issued a notification that while the Biology paper, which was scheduled to be held in the morning session on June 23 stands postponed, it said the Chemistry paper which was held today “stands cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances.” “It is notified for the information of all the concerned eligible candidates who are to appear in the CET-2013 morning session paper on 23rd of June, 2013 that Paper of the Biology is hereby postponed. However, the afternoon session Paper for Mathematics shall be conducted as per the schedule. Further, all the concerned eligible candidates who appeared in the CET-2013 afternoon session paper on 22nd of June, 2013 are hereby informed that the Paper of Chemistry stands cancelled due to some unavoidable circumstances,” a BOPEE notification read, adding fresh dates shall be notified separately. According to sources and aspirants, invigilators at three examination centres here distributed Biology papers while distributing the Chemistry papers. “There were few Biology papers mixed with Chemistry papers in sealed packets in examination centres of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Khoti Bagh, Government SP Higher Secondary and Government Women’s College MA Road,” official sources told Greater Kashmir. Chairman BOPEE RD Sharma downplayed the issue saying it is a “human error” and “such errors have occurred in various examinations.” “We are looking into it as to how this error occurred and stern action will be taken against the guilty,” Sharma said. More than 15,000 candidates are appearing in the Common Entrance Test (CET). On Saturday, the examination of Physics and Chemistry papers was held. According to the Principal of the Khotibagh Higher Secondary School, Gulshan Sangeen, the packets were opened in front of the Board observers and the matter was brought to the notice of higher-ups soon after the Biology papers were found in Chemistry packets. Scores of students and parents alleged that this was a gross negligence by the BOPEE officials. “This is a callous approach and nothing else,” Zahoor Ahmad, a parent said. “Now students have to face more pressure,” he said. He said the government must fix the responsibility and punish the BOPEE authorities for this gross negligence. “This negligence is unwarranted. Why should the students suffer for BOPEE negligence,” said a group of angry students. “The BOPEE authorities must be sacked for this error which has jeopardized career of thousands of students for none of their fault.” They said, “Such a botch-up doesn’t happen even with Class 10 examination. The Government must order a high-level inquiry to unmask the officials behind this mess up, which is unwarranted. From now onwards, nobody would trust the BOPEE.”
