The Bodie Island prescribed burn (https://flickr/photos/capehatterasnps/13902047332/), encompassing approximately 2,060 acres of marsh and mixed vegetation, was conducted on Thursday, April 17, 2014 with the intent to reduce fuel loading in the area as well as to restore vegetative communities. Favorable winds pushed the majority of smoke south towards the Pamlico Sound. The area, last burned in 1993, burned in a typical mosaic pattern for a wildland fire. Some smoke may be visible for a few days.
