The Boys’ Health 2011 I have always been attentive and - TopicsExpress

The Boys’ Health 2011 I have always been attentive and proactive regarding my sons’ health. That’s the history. This started before they were even conceived. I expressed my concern to the IVF doctor, C____ Z____, about my wife’s obesity, inadequate physical health, lack of any exercise, and deficient diet prior to conception. Incidentally, all of these habits continued during pregnancy. He was also concerned, as were subsequent doctors. Two doctors cited these factors as contributing to their premature births (though with twins it is always more likely). In any event, I was the one injecting their mom with the medications necessary for conception as with other duties. As preemies, I was very involved and have remained so. I used to stay up all night when they first came home from Alta B____ Hospital’s NICU and tend to their needs, including giving them pumped breast milk. I was also the one who took them to appointments, on walks, and so forth. Their mother used to say I was “usurping her role” as a mother, though I was more than willing to let her step in. I would contend that I was taking care of my responsibilities along with the circumstances my boys were a part of. Fast forward to recent years. Since the divorce in 2005, over 90% of the times that the boys have stayed home from school due to illness or injury, they have stayed with me (and much was the case prior to the divorce). The custody arrangement says that care should be divided 50/50, but that is far from the reality. This is important to consider when you factor in that the boys’ mom gets paid whether or not she attends work or not. That was not the case with me. Nonetheless, I undertook these responsibilities eagerly and without compensation. Why? Because I love and care for O____ and P____. Consider this. P_____ had a long history of ear infections that were quite immobilizing. Eventually I got their pediatrician to refer us out to Dr. Mark _______ (otolaryngologist) to see if anything could be done to solve the problem. I took P____ to every appointment with Dr. _____ and his staff of specialists. Eventually, after P____ had a period of repeated ear infections and sustained hearing loss, I pressed Dr. ______ on the issue of having my son’s adenoids removed and tubes placed in his ears. Dr. _______ agreed that it was time. This was a long process that culminated in surgery on June 21, 2011. The problem was solved–and he stayed at my home that night to convalesce even though it was mom’s custody time. I have the medical records from Dr. _____’s office, and he and others repeatedly mention consultations with “dad.” There is absolutely no mention of mom. None. This is not idiosyncratic. There are similar accounts involving O___. These allegations of my abuse towards my kids, thus, are insulting to the record. And to my family’s welfare. And really frickin’ nuts.
