The British Virgin Islands calls their locals Belongers We in the CI - Caymanians. Our citizenship called British Overseas Territory Citizen (BOTC) is conferred by the UK British Nationality Act. You are given this by virtue of your connection to an overseas territory - birth, another territory etc in this case the Cayman Islands. Your right to remain, work have your being so to speak is largely governed by our immigration law. The right to be Caymanian is our way of clearly managing and rightly so, your rights to belong to Cayman so to speak. This category of persons (Caymanian) is really internal to cayman and holds no bearing internationally. As a Caymanian though, this means everything to me. My identity and birthright is fundamental to all that connects me to this world. It is therefore wrong for us to pigeon hole birthright for our children of the soil. We already are limp-legged in the affirmation category from go with a BOTC as a citizenship. We should not be creating further issues and driving a wedge between the loyalties of our birthed children. Countries are built from this fundamental innate loyalty.
