The Bunton Saga I wanted to share the story, as I know it, of - TopicsExpress

The Bunton Saga I wanted to share the story, as I know it, of Buntons foray for the past three weeks. On July 27th, Goliath, Ginger, and Bunton were with me as I worked on a project in my shop. As they usually do, they were laying in front of the fan just relaxing as I worked. I did not stop for the evening until well past midnight and when I got ready to shut them up for the night, Goliath and Bunton were nowhere to be found. Feeling sure that they were just in the woods around the house and would certainly be home in the morning, I went to bed. With the Prodigals still missing the following morning, I began the search for them. That search led to a Facebook post of them which was shared by many people. This continued for 6 days with no sightings of either of them. On Friday night, August 1st I got a message of a possible Goliath sighting in Hagan and went there to search for him. Consider the difficulty of seeing a Chocolate Lab after dark. Needless to say, after searching for about 45 minutes I gave up with plans to return at daylight to resume the search. I drove home and upon pulling under the carport, Goliath came around the house alone to greet me. With only 50% of the duo home, the search continued. Buntons picture was posted, shared, and re-shared on Facebook. WTOC lent assistance through their Facebook pages. Several Pet pages in the surrounding area shared his picture and details of his disappearance. A Facebook friend took the indicative to create a flyer that was posted, shared, and re-shared many time still with no luck for another week. Then finally some leads began coming in. Some of those leads were a long shot and one even prompted a trip to Brunswick only to experience disappointment. Several local leads were followed up on which also proved non-productive. On Wednesday night, August 20th, I got a late night message of a possible Bunton sighting about two miles from my home. I got dressed and drove the two miles only to see a golden dog with a black dog run into the woods. I was unable to call them out therefore being sure it wasnt Bunton because after all, a dog knows his masters voice. I returned home, defeated again, to get some sleep. Next morning I received another notice that he had been seen again in the same area. Several return trips were made there, even with Goliath in the truck who will speak on command and even the bark of his Daddy didnt bring him out of the woods. On Saturday night about 8PM while out to dinner, I received a call that Bunton was sighted again and was able to be caught and was in the back of a friends truck headed to my home. I was about an hour from home so he was put on a cable for safe keeping at my carport. Upon returning home, I checked him out good to make sure it was my little Camera loving pup. Needing to get a look in better lighting, I opened the back door of the house to let him in. He immediately ran to the very spot where for the past 4 months of his life he had gotten a Little Debbie Oatmeal Pie every day and there was no question that the second of the Prodigals had made it home. And yes, he did get the Oatmeal Pie, and some leftover steak from my dinner out. I am thankful for Buntons return and am hugely indebted to so many. First to the many who have shared his picture on their personal Facebook pages to get the word out that he was missing. Also for the prayers of many who recognize that pets are family members and are sorely missed when they are gone and are acutely aware that God spelled backwards is Dog! I also owe a tremendous thank you to Peggy Cavender Sowell for her tireless efforts to bring Bunton home. Peggy created a flyer that was posted, shared, printed and displayed, and re-shared again and again. She also posted the information on several Pet sights in the surrounding area. Peggy also contacted The Claxton Enterprise to have the ad published there. WTOC TV shared the pictures and information on their Facebook pages and WTOC Don Logana took a personal interest in getting Bunton home by sharing on Facebook and checking repeated of the progress thru PM. Lastly, I would like to thank Ton and Kathryn Sutton for letting me know of the sightings on Perry road and ultimately being the wonderful friends who captured and brought Bunton home. What a joy to live in Small Town America where people really care, even about our pets.
