The Business of Education: Essential Service versus For Profit - TopicsExpress

The Business of Education: Essential Service versus For Profit Business Have you ever wondered why the Liberal government wants $ummer $chool to continue so very desperately? Is it their need to put the $tudent$ FIR$T? They would have you think so, but as always it is a NUMBER$ GAME. $ummer $chool produces PROFIT. Since 2007 it has been free to BC students who have a PEN (Public Education Number), prior to that it would cost the student fees to enrol in either remedial or full credit $ummer $chool. Now, however, it has a FOR PROFIT portion when offered to out-of-province or international $tudent$. The cost to the$e $tudent$? It range$ from $400 - $1300 per student per course! That is INCENTIVE for the government and school districts to offer the summer program. I dont know if the funds raised by this go to the districts that run the summer schools or if they are given to the Ministry of Education, but they go SOMEWHERE, the question is where? (From the VSB website for Fee information) Unless otherwise noted, the Ministry Of Education will fund all students who have a BC issued Personal Education Number (PEN), and are accepted into the Summer School program. ELEMENTARY: Students are limited to one Ministry Funded course and must register in their current grade level as of June 26, 2014. SECONDARY: Students are not limited to one Ministry Funded course. So what does this mean? In Surrey the profits are as follows: Out of province/international students: $400 - remedial $800 - full credit Vancouver makes an EVEN bigger margin: International Student Fees: 1) 40 Hour course: $620 + applicable book deposit 2) 85.5 Hour course: $1300 + applicable book deposit Out of Province Fees: 1) 40 Hour course: $500 + applicable book deposit 2) 85.5 Hour course: $650 + applicable book deposit Our education system is being sold out by our government on so many levels, where will it end? https://summer.vsb.bc.ca/Pages/fee.aspx
