The Butter House One of the most imposing houses in Le Raysville today is the C.V. Baker residence on East Street. It was built by S.H. Davis in 1884. A retired farmer, he sold his farm, located at the foot of East Street to William S. Davis of Neath, came to Le Raysville, purchased a lot and built this house and adjacent barn. Mr. Davis retained 40 acres of his farm where he kept five cows and drove them back and forth from pasture to barn twice a day to milk. He and his wife made butter form the milk in summer, keeping the butter in the cellar until fall. He would then load the butter in the wagon and drive all the way to Scranton where he would sell the entire lot in one day. Mr. Baker, who passes on this story, adds: Who would make butter today that would keep all summer and be available in the fall?
