The C.E.E.L.S Project will be holding a series of FREE half-day Cultural Awareness workshop primarily for NHS and other health practitioners. Public service or community workers working with Central and East European communities are also welcome. The first work shop will be held on Monday 14 July 2014. The theme of this workshop will be ‘The New and Established Polish community’. Date: Monday 14 July 2014 Time: 13:00 – 16:00 Venue: Carlisle Business Centre, Carlisle Road, Bradford, BD8 8BD The event will provide a broad overview of the Polish community and will cover the following: •Background information about the Polish Community •The main health issues /concerns of these communities (general) •Specific health issues affecting these communities •Barriers Polish people have or may have accessing services and information •How the health system in the country of origin operates differently from the UK •Culture & traditions which may affect attitude’s to health and other issues (beliefs, social norms etc) •Sharing your own experiences working with the Polish community We can improve our understanding and our services by gaining cultural awareness about different communities. It is crucial to gain knowledge because we have people from Central and Eastern European communities living in our district, and we will discuss some of the positive work with Polish communities to produce better outcomes for the community.
