The CDC is now describing U.S. flu activity as being at epidemic levels. Flu is widespread in Georgia – including here in Southwest Health District – and the intensity level is a 10 (the highest) and has been for the past 2-3 weeks. Georgia has had 12 flu-related deaths, including a 3-year-old child. This season’s particular strain of flu (A) is extremely tough on the very young and the elderly. It is definitely not too late to get vaccinated – that is still your best defense against a severe and lengthy case of flu. Also, stay home if sick, practice good hand hygiene and cover coughs and sneezes.
