The CED Social Justice Research Group invites you to take a moment to consider the historical nature of this day. School counselors and university counselors are probably most intimately acquainted with the effects of school segregation on adolescent development and aspirations, but any counselor working with a young client or parenting a child of their own can reflect on what this means in their own community. There is still work to do to promote equal opportunity for all! ~ Dr. Gonzalez News from the Education Trust: May 17, 2014: 60th Anniversary of Brown v. Board Today marks the 60th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. While the intent of the decision was to eliminate separate but equal public education in America, many school districts under previous court order to desegregate their schools have now been granted unitary status. Essentially, this means that because school districts have fulfilled their commitment to desegregation, court oversight is no longer necessary. edtrust.org/
