The CHARITY SEMINAR FOR THE UK FLOOD VICTIMS & TYPHOON HAIYAN - TopicsExpress

The CHARITY SEMINAR FOR THE UK FLOOD VICTIMS & TYPHOON HAIYAN VICTIMS was a SUCCESS. It was a great day for FUN, FRIENDSHIP & FMA. All the participants had a great time learning some basic skills in FMA. We started the day with LIGHTNING ARNIS. Warmed up basic doble baston drills, followed by single stick centreline control, and some bigay tama with disarming. The second session focused more on PANUNTUKAN doing some basic boxing strikes & drills. Then we applied these strikes & drill to empty hand technique against knife attack. Giving them the option of blasting punches or stripping the weapon from the attacker after controlling it. Third session was a continuation of empty hand v knife attack. Then we did some pressure test by doing multiple attackers, teaching them dynamic positioning. They had lots of fun having a go at each other! Last session was an intro to knife & stick sparring. We did a couple of drills in footwork, some offensive & defensive combination, put the gears on..... And they whacked each other until they got tired. Most of the participant practice other arts, so by coming to this seminar they got a glimpse of how Filipino Martial Arts work & think along the lines of moving the body against an armed attack, which they enjoyed & appreciated thoroughly. We were graced by the Mayor of Stevenage who delivered an inspirational message about holding the charity event for the victims of both the UK floods & typhoon Haiyan. About friendship as Aikido Hertfordshire, a Japanese martial art based group hosted the event. And gaining new friends from different martial art groups & non practitioners. About cultural exchange, as we are promoting Filipino culture & heritage. About fitness & having fun while at the same time learning how to protect & defend yourself when needed.
