The CW’s new spinoff show, The Originals, appears to have a promising first season as Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is off to New Orleans to claim the city as his own. Joseph Morgan says that the most exciting aspect of the storyline for him was that a bloodthirsty murdering sociopath might come to love a small baby and woe betide the person that threatens that. Klaus isn’t your traditional hero in any sense of the word, however, The Originals will depict his journey towards redemption, according to showrunner Julie Plec. Rest assured, though, he will remain the diabolical character we all know and love. Plec also noted that they are able move to the next level after The Vampire Diaries with a more grown up show in The Originals. “It’s darker, more complex, it’s more operatic, (with) a lot more flashbacks. A lot of storytelling about the history of these people who have obviously been alive for so long,” she said. At the heart of it, The Originals is about the power of family and the lengths you would go to protect it. On the flip side, the show will also explore the deep wounds caused by a family member betraying you. Siblings Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah certainly have plenty of experience with that. ~Caroline
