The Camden County Police Dept. has announced the arrest of a Haddonfield man on Saturday for trying to rob a taxi driver who was transporting the suspect and another man from Philadelphia through Camden. Police allege that Philip Krieger, 25, of Haddonfield, and another passenger, both white males, were picked up by a taxi in Philadelphia at 18th Street and the Ben Franklin Parkway. The men asked to stop at the Hess station on Admiral Wilson Boulevard in order for Krieger to get cash from an ATM. As the taxi drove east again on the boulevard, the driver asked for payment, at which time Krieger used racial slurs to say he would not pay. The taxi driver then drove off the boulevard to find a police officer. Krieger began punching the victim as he drove, knocking out a tooth and loosening another. The backseat passenger held the victim’s arms while this happened. The taxi driver was able to stop his car near an NJ Transit Police officer at Federal Street and Marlton Avenue. Krieger was arrested from inside the cab. The other male passenger fled the scene. Krieger is charged with Robbery, 1st degree; Bias Intimidation, 1st degree; and Aggravated Assault, 3rd degree. His bail was set at $250,000 cash or bond. Police are investigating to identify the second suspect.
