The Canadian Mint has released a new coin in the Prehistoric Animals coin series. The coin features a reconstruction of Tylosaurus pembinensis, also known under the nickname Bruce, the largest mosasaur ever discovered in Canada. This specimen was discovered in Manitoba in the 1970s and is now on display at the Canadian Fossil Discovery Center in Morden, MB. Tylosaurus lived ~80 million years ago in the vast inland sea that covered North America at the time. At an estimated 13m long, Tylosaurus was as large (if not slightly larger) than T. rex, which lived 12 million years later. This reconstruction of Tylosaurus by Julius Csotonyi reflects our most up-to-date understanding of the appearance of these amazing prehistoric creatures. mint.ca/store/coin/prehistoric-animals-tylosaurus-pembinensis-25cent-coloured-glowinthedark-coin-2013-prod1690013
