The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is a Byzantine-Romanesque/Gothic Revival church located in Manhattan’s Morningside Heights neighborhood. With an interior area of 121,000 square feet, it is the third largest Christian church and, quite possibly, the largest cathedral in the world. Since the first cornerstone was placed in 1892, St. John’s has been subject to a perpetual cycle of construction, redesign, and restoration. Though architectural styles varied throughout drafting and development, the church’s overall structure, façade, and ornamentation are heavily dominated by French Gothic attributes.
