"The Chaffage" is back for another week. Get your fill: The Chaffage Wolves vs. Melville 2-0 Next Game: Wolves vs Hale Sunday 30th June Hale Turf 4:00pm We don’t forget too easily at the Pack. Especially results that sting. Wednesday 24th April 2013 – The Pack was up 2-0 in the first 10 minutes. We were on a high, giving any Melville Monster a beat down that got in our way. An hour later, we trudged off the field 5-2 losers in a result that had until this day stung. So as people say. Revenge is sweet. Served especially well on a bed of Blue Smurf Turf. This was a 6 point game. Wolves had the opportunity to break free from the cellar dwellers of 4th and below. With a win here, it would extend the Pack’s gap to 6 points and a set us up nicely for the rest of the season. With both teams being depleted, it gave an indication of who had the better depth. And yep, we do. Simon “Confusion” Benetti got a run through the midfield whilst James “That’s my Tsalad” Benetti got to don an odd piece of head apparel whilst rolling through our defence. Scott “Tania is still Hurting” Hughes was pushed up into centre-half and ran the show from there. 2-0 up at half time with goals to Grant “Pátron” Shepherd and Ben “Sore Nut? I’ll run for you today” Donisi help the Pack have a buffer from the monsters. The second half got a little more heated with the Mel-villans starting to tackle like one of our own; Struan “Elbows up” Burges and it started to work. More goal opportunities were created by them but some expert keeping from our very own Doug “I got my one CHNCE” Armstrong denied any Monster a goal. A special mention should go to all defensive PC participants as there was a 3 minute patch of Monster corners for no reward. A big kudos there. So after the final siren had sounded, The Pack walked off the field with the result and the knowledge that we now have the stick on the Maroon-goon squad. A special mention must go to the battle of the match between 2 former chums and now sworn enemies; Whippa Snippa and Nick “The Ex” Blakiston. The latter took home the bacon. Shock… Proof that the Triangle always prevails. Chaff: The Pack’s captain, Alistair “Ice Company’s Best Friend” Parks, joins us this week. Parksy, I know it’s not up to the Melville Toyota League interview standard but I’m glad you could do charity work and stop by for a chat. Great results in recent weeks for the Pack. Even without their esteemed leader Jesus. What do you put it down to? Parksy: Other than your great pre game banter? The young blokes have really stepped up. It was great to see the Benetti boys do well again on the weekend when we had a number of our senior players out on national duty. That combined with some great defensive efforts has really allowed us to suffocate teams in the last couple of weeks. C: You are managing to play more minutes this season. How is the body feeling? The correlation between your minutes increasing and the Pack’s improvement seem to match. Is this you taking on more minutes and thus The Pack winning? Or the more likely one, the Pack winning games and you playing more minutes to try and trick people into thinking it’s your doing? P: Chaff you know how much of a front runner I am, as soon as we start winning get me on the Pitch!!! In all seriousness (can I say that in this column?) the body has been feeling really good so far this season and it has been nice to string some reasonable games together over the course of the last month or so. Anyway someone has to make up for your mistakes on the field! C: Going forward, complacency, lack of commitment and over-exaggerated views on skill level could creep into the Pack’s game. How will you as the leader combat this? P: Well I’m packing up and heading off with the U18 Mens team for the next 3 games so it will be a great challenge for the next tier of leaders to step forward and make their mark. There is no doubt that it will be a challenging little period with so many blokes out but a wise man once said ‘through adversity there is always opportunity’. C: You are leaving for the 18s soon. Excited? How do you think you will fare? P: Very much looking forward to it. Another challenge and something a little bit different for me. It will be good to see what Eggy has been complaining about all these years and see how hard coaches really work. We have a very strong Wolves representation within the group with Si and Jim Benetti, Geoff Sutherland playing and Adam ‘Full Bottle’ Williamson as the assistant coach. As always coming from WA there is expectation on your performance however I think that the group can live up to those expectations. C: For the Pack’s last social event, their captain was spotted leaving early and not leading them into battle at the glorious place of Avenue. There must have been a fire at home? Or a medical emergency involving life threatening disease? A call from God? What was the reason? P: As always Chaff I led from the front, getting everyone to TQR and fired up the troops, however being a man of many talents there was a need to wield my influence in other realms. Unfortunately this meant that once the boys got to their final destination safely my job was done. C: Do you think the beard of Nick “The Patch” Budgeon pales in comparison to yours or do you think the kid has a shot in the big leagues? P: You’ve got to give the kid a chance. There is no doubt that he gets 10/10 for perseverance, but at the end of the day if you are going to grow a beard it has to be more than just a little French goatee.
