The Chief Minister Harish Rawat reviewed the programs being run by Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) today. He during the meeting said that special importance must be laid on alternate power. He said that schemes must be implemented and detailed project reports prepared to generate power through alternate sources within five months. The CM also gave directions to UREDA to repair all solar street lights which are not in working order. He added that while installing solar lights in future, 10 years of maintenance scheme must be included. He added that atleast 10 electricity producing schemes must be established in several districts. Solar Rooftop power plants must be set up in government building to reduce dependence on electricity. The CM has passed orders to develop alternate sources of generating electricity. During the review meet, the Secretary Power said that UREDA has devised Power Policy 2013. The power generated through these policies will be purchased through UPCL. UREDA will take on the work of setting up these projects on water bodies. During the review, the director UREDA informed that the ministry of renewable energy, government of India will start the project of setting up one solar park in each mountain state. Under this program, land has been identified to set up a solar park in Uttarakhand as well. During the meeting the CM said that till now, project worth 152 MW of capacity have been installed in the state so far which are dependent on alternate sources of energy. Projects worth capacity of 44.41 MW are under construction. Present in the meeting were Secretary Power Dr Umakant Panwar, Director URDEA Ashish Joshi, Chief Project Officer UREDA AK Tyagi and CP Aggarwal.
