The Chilean Governments environment department has signed off on a planned 698 MW solar power project for the nations northern Atacama region, PV-Tech reports. According to the website, the South Campos Sol project will require $US1.6 billion ($1.8 billion) in investment and will be built over more than 800ha, led by developer Empresa de Desarrollo de Energías Renovables Alen Walung. Various companies will build 11 sub projects for 698MW total, PV-Tech says, with the first stage of 100-300MW to be built this year and the remainder from 2015-19.
