The Christian faith is about confronting and dismantling - TopicsExpress

The Christian faith is about confronting and dismantling oppressive systems, not endorsing them. Our heroes are the peacemakers, those who care for the poor and those who give of themselves. Our heroes are not the architects of hell on earth. A holy day (holiday) celebrated by a person of person of faith that commemorates an architect of hell is a day defiled in the worst sense. Christopher Columbus is in the ranks of Hitler, Stalin and Dick Cheney as an individual who cruelly subjugated and killed many innocent people. Our society reeks of colonialism and militarism... How about a county in Florida named Desoto after another deranged colonial mass killer? These things are attempts to normalize the slaughter of indigenous people and to erase the horrendous history of this civilization. When our faith bodies celebrate militarism, destructive industry, colonialism and other forms of oppression, perhaps they are no longer based on Christ, but something else entirely. Wheres the biting critique of something so obscene as Columbus Day from every church pulpit? What will we come up with next, Auschwitz month? I am not done with the greater Church but I daily ask myself at what point does a church become a shell of anything resembling Jesus and become a house for the toxic religion of imperialism worth totally abandoning.
