The City Council and Greg Severance illegal meetings have once - TopicsExpress

The City Council and Greg Severance illegal meetings have once again dealt the community of Pueblo a severe blow to the body that we may not be able to recover from without the resignation or ouster of the culprits involved. Not only has City Council alienated the public from city government by continually holding illegal meetings; they have effectively disrespected and made a mockery of Pueblo’s large and small business partners. This coupled with their complete mishandling of public safety policy has rendered this City Council utterly ineffective. The recent e-mails between Kaufman, Daff, A. Narwocki, and Severance should be appalling to every resident of Pueblo. Not only because they are illegal, but more importantly they conveyed the sentiment of the hate and disdain these council members have for the very entities that support our community with jobs and services. In one swipe of the keystroke they attacked every business owner within Pueblo through their insane comments about PEDCO and the hard working job producing trash haulers. How can these council members ever be trusted again by these companies and the people of Pueblo after this breach of trust and respect? They have succeeded in relegating their positions as useless. This City Council has been together for five long years and you would be hard pressed to name one single positive thing they have accomplished for the City. On the other hand, there is an endless list of missed opportunities, illegal meetings, and botched governance. They have failed us in providing adequate public safety, they have failed their employees by ignoring their needs, they overspent $5 million on the still unfinished City Hall, they have failed to maintain our streets, and most importantly they have failed in their basic obligation of being trustworthy public servants as evidenced by their continual disregard of the open meeting laws. Maybe the most disturbing aspect of this whole mess is the fact that there is very little we can do as a community to put an end to this buffoonery OTHER THAN RECALL THEM. Since it seems obvious that none will resign, even though they have rendered themselves useless, recall may be the only viable alternative. These council members could easily save themselves and the community further embarrassment by resigning at the City Council meeting next Monday; however, the smart money is on their continued defiance of their constituents who want them gone in order for Pueblo to move forward and prosper once again. Pride always precedes the fall.
