The City of Kingston will hold a memorial service in honor of 9/11 victims on Wednesday at Firemen’s Park. Fire Chief Mark Brown said the service will begin at 8:25 a.m. at the park located at the intersection of Hurley and Washington avenues. Brown said he expects about 100 people will participate in the service, with members of neighboring fire companies expected to attend. Brown said that the Ancient Order of Hibernians are expected to play bagpipes. A gun salute will be held and Taps will be played. Speakers will include Brown, Mayor Shayne Gallo, and Ulster County Executive Michael Hein. A reception will be held later at the Fire Department’s Company 2 Frog Alley station. The city has held the ceremony every year since 2002, a year after the terror attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C. In 2006, a 9/11 memorial sculpture was put in place at Firemen’s Park.
