The City’s Emergency Operations Centre will remain active through the weekend. The following provides an update of the City of Fredericton’s ongoing response to the storm damage and cleanup: charging/shower centres will remain open through the weekend updated statistics re: use of charging centres and bulk water use updated info about tree cleanup efforts to date new tree disposal site Charging / Shower Centres Open at Grant-Harvey Centre and Willie O’Ree Place Open today until 9 pm. ***New***Will be open July 11, 12 & 13 from 6 am to 9 pm. Red Cross, City of Fredericton and NB Social Development and NB Power reps will be on hand ***New***5,805 ppl through centres since Saturday to end of day July 10. Showers also available at Good Life Fitness – Queen and Prospect, plus Fredericton YMCA Bulk Water Supply Bulk water available in parking lots of Grant-Harvey Centre and Willie O’Ree Place Bring your own containers. Water safe to drink. NOTE: City residents are reminded that city water is still working and is safe to drink. ***New***Almost 17,000 litres of water used since Monday to end of day July 10. Citywide Cleanup Targeting citywide cleanup for the week of July 28 Picking up loose limbs, brush, bagged leaves (please use compostable paper leave bags) Materials will be going to Fredericton’s Municipal Compost Facility. Exact details to follow, including what to do with other items damaged by the storm. Trees / Other Storm Questions Trees down involving power lines call NB Power at 1-800-663-6272. Please be careful around powerlines. Assume they are live. Trees along city streets or for other storm related questions, continue to call 460-2038 or 460-2996. ***New***The following provides an update of tree cleanup operations to date: Revised # of City trees down or damaged: 4,000+. (This does not include trees on private property or in City parks.) City is responsible for 30,000 street and ornamental park trees. Six JD Irving logging trucks continue to assist City crews and are making a big difference. Trees are off houses; roadways and majority of driveways are open. Residents can pile limbs / bagged leaves at curb. Please do not block site lines at intersections. See separate info re: Citywide cleanup. Major clean up will continue for the first part of next week. Damaged trees posing an immediate threat are being removed. Will then turn attention to assessing/pruning other damaged trees. Working on cleaning up Odell and Killarney Lake parks, but the parks remained close, as well as along City trails. For those who want to remove their own fallen tree materials, please use: The empty lot next to the car wash on Two Nations Crossing, near the City’s Parks & Trees Depot. (Open 24 hours daily.) The municipal compost facility at the old landfill, Wilsey Road off of Beek Court, near the Vanier Industrial Park. (From 8 am to dusk daily.) ***New***Silverwood tree disposal site located opposite Orchard Drive at the former site of the Silverwood lagoon. (Open from dawn to dusk daily.) Materials collected will be taken to the City’s compost facility to be turned into topsoil. Note: Tree debris taken to landfill will be charged the appropriate disposal fee. Food Disposal Regular Garbage Day continues to be the best option to dispose of damage food from household freezers Double bag garbage; keep separate/covered until garbage day to avoid attracting animals, etc. Volunteers No call for volunteer right now. Check in on your neighbour. Pools Pools coming back on line Watch recreation social media Ice/Propane/Laundromats Most supermarkets and convenience stores now open.
