The Civil War was about economics, not slavery. Any history book true to the facts still points this out. The northern states did not want the southern states trading with the European countries, and enacted unfair tariffs so the southern states could not make any money trading their goods, thus the anger between the states. The issue of slavery was very, very, minimal and was not even in the discussion about the Civil War until near the end of the war.
