The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is pleased to announce this year’s Spanish Language Immersion trip to San Jose, Costa Rica December 29 – January 11, 2014. Our students will be hosted by the ILISA school in San Jose (ILISA) and by local homestay families affiliated with the school. The trip includes 5 hours of Spanish language instruction per day at the school focusing on grammar and conversation and will also include medical vocabulary, accommodations including breakfast and dinner daily with a homestay family, lunch on school days at the school, local excursion trips, transportation to/from the San Jose airport, and round trip airfare from Indianapolis to San Jose, Costa Rica. Optional excursion trips will be available for the weekend. A Butler faculty member will accompany our students on the trip and will participate in the assessment of their language skills. Students will receive 3 hours of academic credit for the trip which can be counted toward completion of the Medical Spanish Track and/or a liberal education or professional elective. If the student is doing 300 level Spanish work, the credit can also be used toward completion of a major or minor in Spanish. The cost of the trip is $2700, including airfare. Students can pick up an application for the trip from Dr. Kent VanTyle in PB313 or from Assistant Dean Bonnie Brown’s office. The deadline for submitting the trip application is Friday, October 18th. The trip is open to all Butler students should you have a nonCOPHS student friend who would like to participate. An interest session will be held on Tuesday, October 8th from 5-6 pm in PB202 so you can get additional information and have your specific questions answered.
