The Columbus Police Department has received several reports of a telephone fraud. A caller identifies himself as a LOUP Power employee and threatens to shut off the customer’s power if they do not pay their bill immediately. The customer is instructed to purchase a debit card, wait for a return call, and provide the debit card number to the caller. This is not a LOUP Power employee and LOUP does not collect bills in this manner. This is a fraud. The caller has a foreign accent. Calls of this nature are usually made from outside the United States.
