The Concentration Technique Used By Einstein You will need a book. An actual physical book works best but in a pinch you can use an electronic reading device if you don’t have a book handy. You also need a sheet of paper, a timer, and a pen or pencil. Start by writing on the top of the paper, “I won’t be distracted by that anymore.” Set your timer to 3 minutes and start reading in the book. Every time that you catch yourself getting distracted, hold your finger on where you stopped reading and make a mark on the sheet of paper. Each time you make a mark on the paper, focus back on the area where you are holding your finger and say silently to yourself, “I won’t be distracted by that again.” A distraction Immediately continue reading from where your finger is and each time you get distracted, make another mark on the paper and silently repeat, “I won’t be distracted by that again” to yourself. Continue doing this until the 3 minute timer goes off. I won’t be distracted by that again. Count how many times you were distracted and make a note of it. This will allow you to see how much progress you are making during each concentration drill. Once you are able to complete the 3 minutes without any distractions, add another minute or 2 to the timer. You will be amazed at how quickly you can learn to keep focused on the reading after only a few sessions of practice. Once you are able to read for 10 minutes without distraction then you only need to do this exercise once per month for maintenance. Final Thoughts on this Concentration Technique Do not be discouraged if on the first few times practicing you have a great deal of marks on your paper. Just continue the exercise and you will see a massive improvement on your concentration ability within just one week.
