The Congress party in Goa must be today in comfort that with the resignation of Churchill Alemao its has been relieved of its excess baggage. Churchill Alemao who has been propped up by the BJP to split secular votes, had for the last few days been also negotiating a compromises deal with the Congress. One would be astounded with the demands and conditions that Churchill Alemao had made. He has today announced that he will contest as an Independent from the South Goa Lok Sabha seat. The political comedian of all times, Churchill Alemao will now attain another controversial distinction of being the first Portuguese citizen to contest a Lok Sabha election. Surprisingly this chronic party hopper Churchill Alemao is keen to return to the Lok Sabha where in 2005 as an MP he was in a sting operation caught red handed saying that he would release funds under MPLAD scheme for setting up a Konkani library in Goa by a non-existent NGO called Ashraya Abhiyan if he was paid commission. At this Lok Sabha election Churchill Alemao will find himself consigned to the racks of Goa’s political archive.
