The Constitution’s separation of powers is clear. Congress - TopicsExpress

The Constitution’s separation of powers is clear. Congress passes the laws, and it’s the President’s job to execute them faithfully. No President, Republican or Democrat, can ignore Congress simply because they disagree with it. Today’s order is a total about-face from the President’s own views on the limits on his power. Just a year ago, the President said today’s order was not an option because ‘it would be very difficult to defend legally. Before that, the President rightly said that he could not change the law on his own because that’s not how democracy functions and that’s not how our Constitution is written. Our immigration system is broken and needs reform so that we can truly be a nation of immigrants and laws. But by willfully ignoring the laws on the books, the President is not moving us closer to a solution. He’s compounding the problem and making it worse.
