The Cozy Inn - Salina, KS Cozy Inn is one of the smallest little dives you could ever patron. It has an incredible history which stems back to 1922 when it first opened! Derived from White Castle which opened a year before in Wichita, Cozy Inn featured 5 cent sliders to its customers. The term sliders came to be most likely from the practice of putting the small burgers on wax paper and sliding them down the counter to the customers. The businesses success grew due to having low overhead and being one of the only places open for a late night bite to eat after a movie or show. The little joint managed to make it through the depression as it offered inexpensive dining. Soon thereafter a military base opened nearby and tons of men would flock to the location to save money on food with their military pay. Bob Cane and Bob Swift began working at Cozy in the 40s and later went on to play Major League Baseball. In the off season they would come back to cook at Cozy. It is incredible to fathom all of the world and local events that this place has made it through! The store has changed ownership a few times throughout the years but not many. in 2005 the owners added some vintage out door seating to accommodate patrons as it is still as popular as it ever was! Cozy Inn is known nationally as one of the only 6 stool diners remaining in America. It has been featured in hundreds of newspaper articles, travel guides and magazines. Cozy has received many awards throughout the years. The most notable are: featured on the Travel Channels 101 Tastiest Places to Chow Down, coming in at #69. Shortly after that, the Travel Channel featured the Cozy Inn on Americas Top Ten Hamburgers, coming in at #6. October 2010, USA Today picked the Cozy Inn as the Best Burger Joint in Kansas. And August of 2012, the Cozy Inn received a Diamond Award from AAA. Most people eat 4-6 burgers upon visiting but they are always good to take home and warm up later! There is simply nothing like a cozy burger. Stopping through Salina yesterday for work I made it a point to have lunch there. I brought some back for my dad because he grew up on them as well. Upon leaving with my sack of burgers for my dad the cook said I hope there are still some for your dad when you get back to Wichita. They tend to disappear quite easily! I highly, highly recommend this place if you are ever going through Salina or if you want to experience a restaurant that has withstood the tests of time quite exceptionally! Cozy Inn is located at 108 North 7th Street in Salina, KS. I highly encourage everybody to check it out!
